TRADITIONAL LIME MORTARS

In terms of building conservation and longevity, using lime mortars when repointing ensures the joints can handle the transmission of water and water vapour between the inside and outside of the masonry wall.

This helps ensure the protection of the surrounding masonry from unnecessary damage.

The use of cement mortars in place of traditional lime mortars can cause a closing effect, stopping the joint and masonry being able to 'breathe' and consequentially leading to damage to the joints and surrounding masonry.
